Loss and expense
With every project there will be unforeseen instances that fall outside of the contract terms where the contractor incurs a loss or additional expense. In such circumstances a claim for loss and expense is appropriate.
These events could cost time, resources or be purely financial – whatever the cause appropriate recompense should be agreed, whether that is additional funding or an extension of time or both.
A claim for loss or expense by a contractor should not be, and should not be seen to be, an attack on the employer or on the employer's team. It should be handled diplomatically from a neutral standpoint.
