JCT Standard Building Contract

Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) are the standard suite of contracts for construction works in the UK and offer the security of tried and tested wording developed over years of use.

The Standard Building Contract is suitable for use with a traditional method of procurement where the design is completed before the tendering process begins. It can be used in conjunction with JCT Standard Building Sub-Contract.

A professional team including, for example, an architect, structural engineer, and M&E engineer, will design the project. The architect/contract administrator will supervise the works and provide sufficient design information to allow the contractor to carry out and complete the works. There may also be an element of the works for which the contractor is responsible for completing the design.

Please note: JCT contracts are being updated progressively during 2024. This section will be updated in due course to reflect the new versions.
