Slipped/missing tiles
Most domestic pitched roofs are covered with layers of overlapping tiles, usually made of:
clay
concrete or
slate.
These allow water to run down the roof pitch and into the guttering. Each layer of tiles is not in itself watertight but, because the tiles beneath overlap, any water that runs between the tiles...
