John Richards is the Managing Director at Thames Laboratories, a specialist consultancy that provides independent asbestos consultancy services. The company is UKAS accredited for asbestos surveying and asbestos testing works, and has been established for over 30 years.
John entered the asbestos sector in 1983 shortly after finishing university. Since then, he has been actively involved in a wide range of asbestos projects from large-scale industrial sites through to work on local authority housing estates, working on behalf of both small and multinational clients. His work has seen him travel the length and breadth of the UK, and has also included asbestos projects in Africa, the Far East and Antarctica.
In his time in the industry, John has been Chairman of ATAC, the body that represents asbestos testing organisations, and is currently a member of its management committee, as well as a member of the management committee for ARCA, the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association.
John is also a member of the RICS Asbestos Working Group and is an Honorary Member of the Institution. He also sits on the Health & Safety Executives Asbestos Liaison Group and the United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) Technical Advisory Committee.
