Andy Desmond, BA (Hons), Cert CII, joined Marsh Specialty in February 2020, having worked in construction insurance for his entire 25-year career until that point.
For the first five years of his career, Andy was a broker in the City of London, looking after clients such as John Laing and working on projects including the National Physical Laboratories and Second Severn River crossing.
Andy then moved to a major UK design and build contractor as the Insurance Manager, where he spent the next 20 years. He was involved in all stages of the insurance programme strategy, from tender negotiations with clients on contract terms and conditions through to the placement of contractor-controlled insurance policies, and the renewal of the annual insurance programme. He also managed the insurance survey programme, the seminar training programme, and the Group Captive.
Andy has been involved in projects such as Crossrail, Mersey Gateway, HS2 and Hinkley Point, to name just a few. As of June 2021, he has been appointed Marsh UK & Ireland Construction Industry Leader.
