Exposure works are sometimes the only means of determining the full extent of problems that originate from the time of construction. For a cavity tray is to function correctly it needs to be installed properly and good practice must then be maintained during the following construction stages. In this case mortar which is likely to have fallen during the laying of the brickwork above has landed on top of the tray and affectivity bridged the cavity.
