Alexander Jan BSC (Econ) FCILT is a director in Arup’s city economics team – part of Arup’s integrated city planning group. An economist by training, his professional expertise is in advising clients how to best deliver regeneration and transport projects to meet their economic, financial and wider strategic aims. Alex has more than 25 years’ of policy, government and consultancy experience. Much of this has been gained from working on London transport and infrastructure projects. He has been advising clients on the financing and funding options relating to delivery of a range of infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally. These have included: taxes, user charges, private finance models, transport-led development and value capture mechanisms.
Alex has written extensively on policy and funding challenges facing London and other British cities. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, a member of the Design South East review panel and was a visiting lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was an independent advisor to the Mayor of London’s infrastructure delivery board. Recently he gave evidence to the Treasury Select Committee’s inquiry into the Autumn Statement and its expenditure proposals for infrastructure.
