	(a) Asphalt has does not have the tensile strength to accommodate the level of movement experienced at this point, resulting in a failure of the membrane, see image (b) below.
	(b) Joint in precast planks immediately below the failed joint in image (a) above. Water penetration has led to the severe corrosion of a retained lifting lug and spalling of the surrounding concrete.
