Building defects database - Condensation: voids
Record details
-
If condensation occurs in void areas it makes timber components susceptible to attack. Condensation is mainly caused by blocked, insufficient or absent air vents. Ensure all vents are clear and subfloor vents are not blocked by garden soil or rubbish (or deliberately covered to prevent draughts). Check humidity levels under floors to assess the effectiveness of vents. The healthiest roof space is cold and draughty.
