The claimant bank, having been asked to finance the purchase of a commercial building, obtained a valuation of the property from the first defendant. The claimants then asked a second firm of valuers to check and confirm the earlier valuation, which they duly did. In an action for negligence against both valuers, it was held that the bank had relied on both valuations in reaching their decision to lend on the property.
